Ilyushin IL-76TD The IL-76 (Candid) was designed to meet a Soviet Air force requirement for a medium to long range jet transport aircraft, having ability to operate from short, unprepared runways and airports with undeveloped infrastructure. To achieve a large, easy to load/unload cargo compartment, the IL-76 was built as a high-wing monoplane with a T-tail and rear-loading ramp. The cargo area is fully pressurized and has a titanium floor, which can accept a large variety of self-loading wheeled or tracked vehicles. A mechanical handling system, which is rated at 10 metric ton, provides loading/offloading or palletized or containerized cargo/module. Currently IL76 is available for retrofitting with PS-90 engines to meet newly implemented noise and pollution limitations. Wing span | 165 ft 7 in | 50.5 m |
